Salvatore Family Farm – Bringing Saffron Farming to NH

Writing and photograph by Ashley Salvatore of Salvatore Family Farms

Salvatore Family Farm was recently established in 2019. We pride ourselves on using only organic and sustainable practices on our farm. We specialize in growing local and pure saffron spice. Saffron is a unique spice that is typically imported from Spain or Iran, but now can be found growing in Chichester, NH!

Why do you think it’s important for New Hampshire to buy and eat local food?

Buying local is so important! Not only do you get fresh food at your table but you help support smaller farms who otherwise wouldn’t be able to continue their farm dreams.

What is one accomplishment you’ve achieved recently in your work?

At Salvatore Family Farm, we have successfully grown saffron on our land using only manual farm practices to maintain an organic product. Manual operations were used for planting, weeding, harvesting, and maintaining. And, the hard work paid off… our saffron spice is delicious!
